6-Word Wednesday

My mid-summer funk has gone to new depths this year, and it has a new name.

The Giant Mid-Summer Freaking Funk

Thankfully, like a bike hill, Mid-Summer is only for a short amount of time, and before you know it, the resistance goes down and we're flying downhill.

At least that's what I'm hoping for.

So, when I got up this morning and flipped through Twitter to see what I missed, I found this bit of inspiration that seems to capture the exact feeling I have when I'm driving home from Spin Class.

Leave it to Nike.

I can feel the resistance being turned down already, and know in my heart that everything will be okay.  It's not the easy times that make us who we are, it the difficult ones, and sometimes we just need to ride the wave long enough to see the calmer waters.

It sucks, but there really is no other way.

My  6-Word battle cry for the day is this:

Life is tough.  Find your greatness.
thanks, Nike.

I hope you have an amazing day...

6-Word Wednesday!

My mom's hero...
Have I mentioned that I heart 6-Word Wednesday?

I really heart it a lot.

But today is bittersweet, because, sadly today is also the anniversary of my mom's death, and I hate this day.  So how does one remember without being sad?  Over the years I've learned to deal with it, and it's true when they say that time does ease the pain - but it never really goes away.  It feels only appropriate that there should be rain today... that's a good thing.  In fact, there really are a lot of good things.

But life will go on, always.

When there's memories, make them happy.

Laughter is key to all happiness.

Surround yourself with people you love <3

'This too shall pass,' she said.

Is there anything better than shopping?  (of course, she'd say...lets do lunch!)

I hope you have a wonderful 6-word day!

Monday Pinday!

Monday Pinday is officially becoming Monday Funday.  Although, I must admit trying to find Pins this morning proved to be quite the challenge.  You know when you're scrolling and looking for something, and nothing hits you as interesting?

Luckily for you I'm tenacious.

Shall we begin?

After just finishing 11/22/63 by Stephen King, I couldn't not pin Jackie.... and in pink to boot!

Who wouldn't want to come up with a meal planning system?  Sigh...

A line from The Vow, a movie Channing could be proud of (as opposed to his latest work)

Not sure why, but this is funny to me.

I want this hair.  And someone to style it like this every morning.

According to this, I really am a writer.

I may just print this for my mirror so I can see it every day.

Nemo fans will understand.

I love this prayer.

See?  There was really no rhyme or reason for anything I pinned today, but as usual, I was able to be inspired.... or is it Pinspired?   Hmmmm.

Have a fabulous day!

Friday Reads

Happy Friday the 13th!

I am happy to tell you that I have two books on my list this week, and both are biggies, so technically I should be home reading right now.

The first one I actually started last weekend and only half-way through.  It's Stephen King's 11/22/63, and I am shocked at how many people have never heard about this book.  Essentially, it's about a guy who time travels back to the late 50's / 60's so he can try and stop the Kennedy Assassination.  Obviously, given it's King, there is so much more to this story, and I literally can't wait to get home and read every day this week.  The characters are real, the story is convincing, and in true King fashion, there is an underlying creepiness to all that's going on.

Love.  This.  Book.

My second book this week is from A Discovery of Witches Trilogy, Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness.  I loved the first book so much and have been waiting patiently for this one to come out.  It's already downloaded on the Nook, so all I have to do is finish 11/22/63, and I can go back in time again!

I hope you find yourself sitting in the sun this weekend reading something good!

Have a fabulous week!

6-Word Wednesday

For a while now, 6-Word Memoirs have been one of my favorite things.  I had heard about it on a morning show about 6 years ago (ironic, right?), and ever since I try to sum up my life, day, or even hour in 6 words.

It's tricky, but oh so fun.

Get it?

So, Wednesday is officially 6-Word Wednesday on here now, and this is what I'm feeling today.

Not a fan of summer, and probably won't be for a while... so I'll do my best and try to fake it.  I did see a sign on my way to work today though and it's kinda sticking with me...

Today's the day for new beginnings.

I think I like that one.

Are you getting the point yet?

Happy Wednesday Peeps.  Make it great!

Word.

Monday Pinday

For whatever reason, Monday morning is one of my favorites.  I don't usually go into work till later so I have the mornings to myself, which is genius!

Here's my schedule:

  1. Make coffee, unless Toby has already made it.
  2. Sit with my iPad and plan out the week.
  3. Pin
Pinterest is my go-to time killer right now.  I like to go on and see what others have pinned, but mostly I like to find things on my own.  I think that Pins are extremely telling about a person.  Granted, I don't always pin everything for that reason alone.  Always keep a part of you for yourself.

The rest is up for judgement :)

Here are the pins that called to me this morning.  Sometimes I see a theme, as if Pinterest is trying to tell me something... Apparently today, I'm hungry and supposed to use my imagination a little.  Obviously, if you want more info on the pictures, go to my Pinterest page and click on the links.

This looks like breakfast to me.

Sigh, someday...
True story.

I want this for my back deck.

always.

enough said.

What will you pin today?

Happy Monday!

Renovate

Definition:  To fix up, modernize.

It's not a mystery that I lose focus from time to time.  I believe in the wicked powers of adult onset ADD every single day.  It's shocking that I can even get through a day sometimes, with all my brain cells picking a different focal point every five seconds.

I have 70 competition forms I have to enter today.  They take about 5-10 minutes each to enter, and they are currently laughing at me now.

Mocking me, really.

But, even though I recognize this disability (and it is) in myself, my old brain - trusty old faithful - is constantly trying to drag me back to the heart of the matter.

The words.  The reason I'm even here writing.

Sometimes I get so off track and think 'I have nothing to blog about,' when all I have to do is pick a word.  It really doesn't have to be this difficult.  I get so stuck in creating drama and bad feelings, never realizing that I chose them to begin with.

So renovate is my word today.  What do I want to renovate (fix up, modernize)?  Well, everything.  My life, my blog, my reason for writing.  Last night I watched Sex and the City for about two hours, and it reminded me of why I wanted to start this in the first place.  The show was so brilliant in defining friendship, women's issues, and love, and I realized that this is when I'm happiest, writing for you, and maybe I just needed to modernize it a little.  A make-over never hurt anyone.

I hope you enjoy some of the changes to come, and maybe even try to renovate a part of your life too.

Happy Sunday!

The Miss List

In my opinion, Nora Ephron was a genius.  Not only were her books, funny, honest, and witty, she also wrote two of my Top Ten movies:  Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.

In her last book, I Remember Nothing, and Other Reflections she included two lists:  What I Won’t Miss was one, and What I Will Miss was the other.  Because of copyright laws I'm not going to print them here, but if you get a chance, google them and enjoy.  In the meantime though, I challenge you to make your own lists of what you'd miss and what you wouldn't.

Here are mine...

What I Won't Miss

working
drying my hair
emptying the dishwasher
90 degrees and humid
nasty customers
back pain and headaches
root canals, or any dental work for that matter (sorry Kimi)
counting calories, or any diet related chore
insomnia
voice mail
traffic
grocery shopping

What I Will Miss

Toby, Evan, and Blake (Goldie too, if I'm being honest)
my family (every crazy last one of them)
music
baking cookies
reading
writing
hot showers in the winter
down blankets
cool summer evenings on the deck
laughing with friends
movies
teaching someone how to skate
giving advice
buttered popcorn
ice.  cold.  beer.
the perfect spring day
the text that will make you giggle when you're having a horrible day
inappropriate Thursdays
my work family
the friends who have never left my side (you know who you are).
laughter through tears
Siesta Key
Seeing happiness on my kids faces

I know there are many more I'll think of later for each list, but it's a good place to start.  I like that my miss list is longer than my won't miss list.  I think that says I'm on the right track.
Comment and let me know one thing from each of your lists...
Happy Monday!
