6-Word Wednesday

I woke up today, and literally wanted to stay in bed all day.  After doing yoga yesterday going to a movie last night, I am the dreadful combination of sore and tired.  And no, I don't feel sore and tired... I literally am the walking definition of Sore and Tired.

Living on the corner of Sore and Tired, if you will.

So I needed a pick me up, because staying in bed all day really isn't an option.  I have found youtube to be the best way to find something to either inspire me or at least make me laugh.  Today, I went with the laughs.

I really started to think about laughter because it has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember.

My mom had that laugh.  The Garmyn laugh people called it.
I was the little girl with the big laugh.
The most miserable moments of my life has been lightened by laughter.
I married a man who could (and still does) make me laugh.
Laughter connects us, frees us from trouble (even if for a moment), and can mend a broken heart.

In short (6 words, in fact):

Life's short.  Laugh with your friends.

And by friends, I mean Friends.  Enjoy this clip I found.  I know it's a little long, so shut the office door, turn the volume up, and laugh.

You deserve it today.

Wishes

I have had one of those weeks when I begin to question why I dropped out of psyche 101 all those years ago.  It seemed as though everyone was going through something, and my job was to help them.  And now that I really think about it, my life is kinda like that.  I feel as though my job description should include counsellor or mentor.... something along those lines.

When did this happen?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all.  In fact, truth be told, I get a little giddy when I get to listen and help someone work through a problem.  It has occurred to me on more than one occasion that this is the reason I am here.  I love being able to laugh with someone or cry with them too.  I love to see the lightbulb go off when they see the answer for themselves.  I love the hugs that follow... or sometimes chocolate.

Chocolate is always good.

I have often wondered why I have chosen to write about the words, but now I get it.  It's my way of conducting mass therapy for all.  I simply want us all to have a better life.

To make better choices.
To see the bright side.
To make the change that is long overdue.
To be grateful and say thank you.
To know that happiness isn't something you have to look for.
To understand that letting go is okay.
To find your path.

I was recently asked to write something for someone who has been a part of my life for the past nineteen years (maybe more, and yes, it's been that long).  She is finally taking the plunge and doing something she has wanted to do for a long time, and while that can be exciting, it's also a little scary.  The words 'Be careful what you wish for,' resonate in times like this.  I have no doubt she is doing exactly what she is supposed to be doing, otherwise the stars wouldn't have lined up for her this way.  But just the same, change can be hard.

I have given this so much thought, because you know I want to get it right.  The last thing she needs is a lame post about following your dreams, blah, blah, blah.  Then I realized, almost every post I write is for her.  When I sit down to do this, I am usually carrying around what is going on in my life, or in my friend's lives, and I write for them.  I try to inspire, encourage, and problem solve along the way, and if something makes you giggle, well then my job is done.

And sometimes I need to steal from others to convey what I want to say...

My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
~ Rascal Flatts

I think she'd approve.

And since she's a lifer, we'll be celebrating her all week!

Enjoy this amazing weather :)

BFF's

For me, friendship doesn't get any better than this.  It's almost as if Lucy and Ethel were the couple and the husbands were the sidekicks.  They could do and say anything, get in all sorts of trouble, and there was never any judgement.  It was the first unconditional friendship on TV that I know of, and I vividly remember my mom loving this show.  She knew every episode, and made sure I did too.

The best part of friends for me is that I can be myself, and I know you'll laugh with me... or cry with me... or get angry too.  We all have our own problems, but sharing them with each other is a safe place.  Our husbands usually try to fix things or blame someone... but you guys?  You just listen, which is what we all want anyways.  I never get irritated with venting because I know I'll get a turn at some point.  We all do.

And then we giggle.

We prop each other up, give pep talks when needed, or simply just listen.  It's instinctive for us to know what the other one needs.

So, to all my friends reading this right now...  Thank you.  You have no idea how lonely life would be without you.

Have a fabulous weekend!

B Friendly

This is quite possibly the best quote I've found on the subject, and expresses exactly how I feel :)

Have a fabulous day!

Week 4

Can you believe we're almost halfway through our 8 Weeks? Time flies, and week 4 is all about who you're with to get you through those flying times.

Friends.

We can't live without them, and anyone who is, isn't having half as much fun. This is what I think of when I hear the word friend:

Comfort

Laughter

Advice

Venting

Email, Texting, Pinning, Facebooking, and now Twittering

Giggles

Inappropriateness

Books

Love

The list really could go on forever. Your friends are the family you choose... I have that on a card on my fridge, and it's 100% true. I would be lost without my friends to get me through each day (sometimes the next hour). So, this week will be a celebration of our friends, for our friends. Consider this week my love letter to you all.

I always felt that the great high privilege, relief and comfort of friendship was that one had to explain nothing. ~Katherine Mansfield

So your homework for the week is to find the quotes, sayings, and pictures that remind you of your friends. Each day, after your gratitude list, search the web or books. Pinterest will be a dream for this task. Tweet them, text them, post them to facebook. Celebrate your friendships this week and give thanks to them for always being there.

This is going to be a fun week :) Have a good one!
